Yoga & Meditation
Born in Durham, NC, Lauren Kamala Beissinger, is a 500hr-level Certified Shambhava Yoga Teacher and a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT# 7344). She has practiced yoga since 1997 and has taught since 2003. She earned her BA at the University of West Florida in 2002.
The daughter of an orthopedic surgeon and a psychologist, Kamala began her exploration of the mind-body connection with ballet and gymnastics at age 4. Kamala took naturally to yoga classes in 1997, as a college freshman. Sophomore year, she did field studies abroad, in the sacred Himalayas of Nepal, studying mountain ecology, sustainability, and inevitably fell in love with the eastern spiritual traditions. After returning home, she pursued her yogic studies whole-heartedly, after “meeting her teacher,” a humble and true siddha yogi near her hometown of Pensacola, FL. In 2003, after following a disciplined, ascetic-style life for two years under his guidance, Kamala traveled to Shoshoni Yoga Retreat, a residential ashram in Rollinsville, CO, to attain her Yoga Teacher Certification in the Shambhava School of Yoga. Shoshoni was founded by Kundalini Master, Babaji Shambhavananda.
Kamala’s class includes classical postures, varied and modified for the individual, all while flowing with the breath. Breathing techniques, meditation, and sometimes chanting, all permeate the sequence of the day, creating a fluid journey for the mind and body–on the breath. Therefore, Yoga, or union, remains always the path and the goal.
When Covid paused her career as a Massage Therapist/Yoga Teacher, Kamala went back to school– attending the NPS Park Ranger Law Enforcement Academy in Sylva, NC. Nowadays, when she’s not in the studio doing massage or yoga, you can find her in boots and a green ballcap, serving as a Park Ranger in nearby Caesars Head State Park.
